Giraffe Centre + Daphne Sheldrick wildlife Trust + Karen Blixen and Lunch
The day begins by visiting the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, The Giraffe Center in Karen Suburbs before heading to the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a center involved in rescuing orphaned baby elephants from across the Country and taking care of them till an age to be reintroduced back in the wild.
Thereafter, you have an opportunity to visit the Karen Blixen Museums for an insight of the former home of Karen Von Blixen till 1932. A Tour inside the 1912 built house will rekindle the memories of the great book written by Karen Von Blixen and a movie that followed with the same tittle.

This Nairobi City Excursion gives one a perfect introduction to Kenya’s Capital and shows the ‘other side’ of Kenya’s Capital.
While this tour takes one to a single section of Nairobi City, one is bound to enjoy a beautiful game drive in Nairobi National Park, Visit Karen Blixen Museums, and the Giraffe Centre. An early game drive in the park is always a preference in this park due to the fauna behavior in this specific park. We would therefore capitalize the early session for the game drive before venturing to other destinations around the Karen suburbs.

The Giraffe Center is the home of the endangered Rothchild giraffes which is a sub species of the Giraffa camolopardalis.
In 1979, the Giraffe Center, a nature sanctuary for visiting and including wildlife conservation education for urban school children, was started by Jock Leslie Melville, the Kenyan grandson of a Scottish Earl, when he and his wife Betty captured two baby giraffe to start a program of breeding giraffe on their Langata property, site of the present Centre. Since then, the program has had huge success, resulting in the introduction of several breeding pairs of Rothschild Giraffe into Kenyan national parks.
By 1983 enough money had been raised to establish the Giraffe Visitor’s Center as a tourist destination just outside Nairobi.
The main attraction for both school children and visitors is feeding giraffes from a raised observation platform. The Giraffe Center is also home to several warthogs which freely roam the area along with the giraffes.
. The giraffes were becoming endangered due the below reason:
Losing their habitat due to human activities like farming and development.
Being hunted for me and skin.
Incurable diseases.
The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (K) Ltd was formed to raise more resources to protect the rescued giraffes as the center positioned itself as a breeding center for the subspecies.
The Karen Blixen former home is currently a museum under the National Museums of Kenya. This is the original home of Karen Von Blixen who lived in the Country until 1932. During her stay in the country, Karen wrote several books and did a lot of paintings alongside her major economic activity which was farming.
The property sits on the slopes of the “knuckle shaped” Ngong hills and hence fertile terrain to do farming way back then.
